Barbara Davis (Principal, Barbara Davis Gallery) curates this one-off Healing Arts Auction to support The Future is Unwritten Artists Response Fund, established in 2020, under the auspices of the World Health Organization Art & Health Program to provide financial and production support to artist-led projects that contribute to improved physical, mental, and social health in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) hosts a special opening reception celebrating Healing Arts Houston. Join us as we kick off exciting and necessary conversations around medicine and the arts. At 7PM, there will be welcoming remarks by Christopher Bailey, the Arts and Health Lead of the World Health Organization (WHO); Hesse McGraw, Executive Director at CAMH; and a special announcement unveiling the Houston recipient of The Future is Unwritten Artist Response Fund Grant. Following the remarks, will be a celebratory reception on CAMH’s outdoor terrace.

The Blaffer Art Museum will present the work of three artists who propose alternative meditations and visualizations of the medical process. Shana Hoehn, Virginia Lee Montgomery and Sarah Sudhoff have all spent significant time living and working in Texas, and each will share work that reformulates our visual and conceptual models of healing and remedy. This exhibition will offer a space for a recalibration of care and how it is practiced as both one and many.

In memory of Fotofest co-founder, Fred Baldwin (1929-2021), who supported so many artists from around the world, leading Saudi artist and Edge of Arabia donated this work to benefit the Biennale and an Arts & Health Residency at the University of Houston as part of Healing Arts.

Contemporary Arts Museum Houston invites you to a special tour of New York Times and Los Angeles Times exhibition of the year, The Dirty South: Contemporary Art, Material Culture, and the Sonic Impulse. The tour will be introduced by CAMH Deputy Director, Seba Suber, and Healing Arts Co-Directors, Stephen Stapleton and Nisha Sajnani.
