Sarah Sudhoff

Artist

Sarah Sudhoff is a Cuban American Houston-based interdisciplinary artist. Sudhoff’s work interweaves themes of gender, science, and personal experience through photographs —staged and found — as well as through performance, installation, and sculpture. Most recently, her work centers on emerging methods of data collection, creating tangible expressions of ephemeral human experiences, as seen in her kinetic sculptures in “Point of Origin” and her interactive light installation titled “The Reading Brain.” Within the last year, Sudhoff has returned to photographic self-portraiture and performance. Sudhoff’s recent performances “El Recuerdo,” “Will You Hug Me Forever,” and “60 Pounds of Pressure” all explore the body as data and material while exploring notions of inherited memory and acts of care.

Sudhoff has participated in artist residencies at Artpace, San Antonio, the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction, Bloomington, Indiana, and The DoSeum in San Antonio, Texas. Artist grants from Houston Arts Alliance (2020, 2019 & 2017) and The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation (2013) have furthered her career.

Sudhoff has given recent artist talks to RMIT University in Melbourne, Rhode Island School of Design, El Paso Community College, Austin Community College, Blaffer Art Museum Art and she will speaking about her recent exhibition this week at Nancy Littlejohn Gallery and will be presenting her performance during the Culture, Health & Wellbeing International Conference in Oxford, England later this month.
